How Fibecheck handles personal information

Who we are

Fibecheck provides a yarn and fibre product search website and a separate knitting and crochet organizer app for patterns, projects, counters, and yarn stash. For privacy questions, support, access requests, correction requests, or complaints, contact curtis@curtisduggan.com.

Information we collect

Information you provide directly

• Support emails and messages you send to us.
• Information you choose to include in support requests, such as your email address, device details, screenshots, project names, or a description of the problem.
• Information related to App Store purchases, subscriptions, or account questions that you include in your message.

Information collected through the website

• Search terms, filters, and product identifiers you submit to find yarn and fibre products. These requests are processed by our website and Shopify’s public Catalog API.
• Basic technical and request data that web hosts and infrastructure providers typically receive, such as IP address, browser type, operating system, referral URL, and request timestamps.
• Products you save are stored in your browser’s local storage. Fibecheck does not require an account or intentionally copy that saved list to its servers.

Information handled in the app

• Patterns, project details, notes, counters, stash entries, yarn photos, and related content you choose to save in the app.
• If you use paid sync features, synced app data may be transmitted and stored through Apple services you choose to enable.

Information we do not intentionally collect on this site

• We do not intentionally ask for sensitive personal information through the landing site.
• We do not use advertising cookies or third-party behavioural advertising on the search site.

How we use information

We use personal information only for purposes that are reasonably connected to running Fibecheck and supporting users. That includes:

• Providing and improving the website and app.
• Processing product searches and returning relevant yarn and fibre listings.
• Responding to support requests, bug reports, and account questions.
• Investigating crashes, sync issues, import problems, or similar product issues.
• Maintaining security, preventing abuse, and protecting the website and app.
• Meeting legal, regulatory, tax, or accounting obligations.

For users in the UK, we generally rely on performance of a contract, compliance with legal obligations, and legitimate interests such as running, securing, and improving the service. Where consent is required by law, we will rely on consent.

For users in Canada, Australia, and New Zealand, we aim to collect, use, and disclose personal information only for reasonable purposes connected to the service, and to use consent where required by applicable law.

How we share information

We do not sell personal information. We may disclose personal information only in limited circumstances, including:

• With hosting, infrastructure, email, and support providers that help operate the website and support channels, including Vercel for website hosting.
• With Shopify when processing searches against Shopify’s public Catalog API. Product links then take you to independent merchants, whose own privacy policies govern your interactions with their sites.
• With Apple when necessary to support App Store billing, subscriptions, crash handling, sync, or platform services you choose to use.
• When required by law, legal process, or a valid government request.
• To protect the rights, safety, security, or integrity of Fibecheck, users, or others.
• In connection with a business transfer such as a merger, acquisition, financing, or asset sale.

Storage and retention

We keep personal information only for as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes described in this policy, including support, security, legal compliance, dispute resolution, and record-keeping.

• Support emails may be retained for follow-up, troubleshooting, and record-keeping.
• Website request logs, which may include search request URLs, may be retained by hosting providers for security, uptime, and operational reasons.
• App content may remain on your device unless you delete it. If you enable sync, synced data may also be stored through the sync services you choose to use.

International transfers

Your information may be processed or stored in countries other than the one where you live, including where service providers or infrastructure providers operate. That can include the United States and other countries where our vendors or platform providers operate.

If you are in the UK, Canada, Australia, or New Zealand, this may mean your information is handled outside your home jurisdiction and may be subject to the laws of those places. Where required, we aim to use reasonable measures to protect information transferred across borders.

Your privacy rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to ask for access to your personal information, request correction, request deletion, object to or restrict some processing, withdraw consent where consent is used, or make a complaint to a privacy regulator.

Fibecheck is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children through this website. If you believe a child has provided personal information through the site, contact us and we will take reasonable steps to review and delete it if appropriate.

We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational measures intended to protect personal information. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will update the date at the top of this page and, where appropriate, provide additional notice.
